Meath Hill Church: 1981–1982 Reconstruction

Meath Hill Church
Plans were made to have the church reconstructed in 1974 but the project was postponed until 1981 when Fr. Butler took charge of it. The work commenced in November of that year and was completed in July of 1982.
The architects responsible were Patrick Rooney and Associates, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 and the contractors were John Kerr and Sons, Ardee. The total cost of the project was 120,000.00 (10,000.00
of which was used to improve the church grounds). A modern cross was located opposite the main door of the building and the linen wall hanging by Bernadette Madden was commended in the Mont Kavanagh Award for Environmental Art in 1983.
The church was re-dedicated to St Brigid and St. Patrick. The ceremony took place on 15th August
1982, when Most Rev. Dr. McCormack, bishop of Meath performed the blessing and the late Rev. Richard Tehan P.P. Kingscourt preached the homily.
