1933
A new statue of the Sacred Heart was erected on the village green. The statue was presented by
Miss Mary-Ann Fay, Drumconrath. On the Feast of SS. Peter and Paul, the Patron day of the parish the statue was unveiled. The ceremony on this occasion consisted of Rosary and sermon on the Sacred Heart, preached by Rev. R. Callary P.P. Castletown – Kilpatrick.
Then there was a procession to the Grotto where the statue was unveiled and Benediction given,
there and again at the Church.
With the permission of the bishop the same will take place annually on same date.
Previous to the 1934 ceremony a new canopy and a number of banners were purchased by Rev. J .
Irwin C.C. The banners are the property of individual parishioners who contributed towards
same. The Canopy and banners are preserved.
